Meet the California Lemon Law Auto Expert… Randy Sottile

Hello. Let me introduce myself. My name is Randy Sottile.  I got started becoming a consumer advocate because I bought a new car back in 1995 that turned out to be a lemon!  I won my landmark case against the automobile's manufacturer that was considered "unbeatable".  

Admittedly, I am a “car guy”, and I like to help people who are in the same place I once was – stuck with a “lemon” car.  

I am an expert on automobiles as it applies to the California lemon law - I know cars inside and out. You can learn what I

know, so that you can build your own lemon law case! Most consumers don't even know they have a case, or that they can actually "build" one. I will show you how.  

Most consumers, when it comes to their cars, and not really comfortable in talking with an attorney. Easy to understand. They are not looking for legal mumbo-jumbo, they are looking to get information, a “caring ear” of someone who understands their situation, and answers about their vehicle purchase and the repairs they have endured that made their purchase or lease a major disappointment. They want to know how the lemon law can work for them. That's where I come in.  Let's talk about your vehicle, what problems it has had (or still has), and what can be done about it to get you the best possible monetary outcome. Your call is FREE. My background is unique.  I grew up in the automobile dealership business (my dad ran a car dealership his whole professional career).  I'm the guy in the video above.  I have worked on cars, sold cars and managed automobile dealerships. My goal, while in the automobile business, was to make my customers happy.  For fourteen years I owned and operated a company that helped honest automobile dealers retain their customers and keep them happy.  For two years I owned and operated a Lemon Law mechanical / technical consulting service to lemon law attorneys nationwide.  Most recently, for the past 11 years I am in the position of Technical and Research Director for the state's largest lemon law attorney firm.

You may ask, "what is a Lemon Law Auto Expert?"  This is a person who has worked in all the environments that have to do with automobiles, automobile dealer warranty repairs, customer satisfaction and the California lemon law. That would be me.  So, yes, I am a "Lemon Law Auto Expert".  I have over 35 years "in cars". No, I'm not an attorney so I can't dispense legal advice - only attorneys can do that.  The advice I do dispense can be invaluable to all California consumers with cars that have had repeated warranty repairs - and it's all free.

O.K., so you ended up with vehicle that has had several repeat repairs under factory warranty? Those repairs can turn into thousands of dollars in your pocket! Hard to imagine? It's easier than you think, when you have the Lemon Law Auto Expert on your side.

California Lemon Law and your vehicle that has had repeated warranty repairs…

It doesn't matter if you purchased or leased a new vehicle, you purchased a used vehicle still under the manufacturer's warranty, or even a "CPO" (Certified Pre-Owned) warranted vehicle - you have rights! Even a vehicle that had a horrid warranty repair history that was recently traded-off, sold, or lease-returned can be a lemon law case! What all these vehicles have in common is that they are covered by a manufacturer's warranty. The California Lemon Law is about warranty repairs.

The California Lemon Law uses the words "substantial impairment". This is much akin to "really bad" in non-legal terms as to just how bad the problem(s) are with your vehicle. These "really bad" problems must affect the use or safety of the vehicle to the buyer - which is you.

Once a vehicle has been subject to an "unreasonable" number of trips to the dealers service department for the same repeated problem (or can also be too many cumulative days in the service department) for factory warranty repairs, the vehicle owner can start thinking about a California lemon law case & claim.

Where to Start

You start with documents. Collect up the following documents, putting them in a chronological order:

  1. Purchase or Lease agreement

  2. Current license registration card

  3. All repair order invoices for all warranty work performed on vehicle.
